Presentation Summary

This presentation will include discussion of regulated and emerging recalcitrant contaminants, their physicochemical properties, and associated treatment challenges. The presentation will highlight perfluorinated compounds (PFCs) and other contaminants garnering the attention of top water treatment and remediation practitioners.

Speaker

Dr. Christopher Bellona Assistant Professor, Colorado School of Mines Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

Dr. Bellona earned his Doctorate degree in Environmental Science and Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines in 2007. His research has been mainly focused on indirect potable wastewater reuse and the removal of organic contaminants from water and wastewater using advanced treatment processes. He has considerable experience testing emerging water treatment technologies at the pilot-scale.

Chris’ current research interests include advanced oxidation processes, membrane technologies, removal of poly- and per-fluorinated alkyl substances, and the recovery of valuable constituents from various waste streams.

Dr. Bellona has obtained funding from the USEPA, WateReuse Research Foundation, Water Research Foundation, National Science Foundation, Department of Defense, Air Force, industry sponsors, and water and wastewater utilities. He has authored or coauthored more than 30 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters, and presents regularly at national and international conferences.
