The film examines the results of the chemical revolution of the 1940s through the eyes of affable filmmaker Ed Brown, a father seeking to understand the world in which he and his wife are raising their children. To create this debut documentary, one man and his camera traveled extensively to find and interview top minds in the fields of science, advocacy, and law. Weaving their testimonies into a compelling narrative, Brown presents us with the story of how the chemical revolution brought us to where we are, and of where, if we’re not vigilant, it may take us.

Unacceptable Levels opens the door to conversations about the chemical burden our bodies carry so that we can make informed decisions now and in the future. The film poses challenges to our companies, our government, and our society to do something about a nearly-unseen threat with the inspired knowledge that small changes can generate a massive impact.

Panel Discussion: A 30-40 minute panel discussion will follow the screening. The panelists include the following:

  • Robert W. Benson, Ph.D. Dr. Benson has a B.A. in History and a M.S. in Biochemistry from the University of Minnesota, and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from UCLA. Dr. Benson has worked as a toxicologist in the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Drinking Water Program since 1988.
  • Jenifer Heath, Ph.D. Dr. Heath is a Toxicologist and Risk Assessor who serves as a testifying or non-testifying witness on cases related to toxicology and human health risk assessment. She has over 25 years of experience, including over 20 years with AECOM and its heritage companies. Her work has included in-depth evaluation of information about the toxicity of chemicals in both laboratory animals and humans; appropriate application of knowledge about mechanisms of action; and effective integration of this information into risk assessment, risk management, and community relations efforts.
  • Stephen Foster, Ph.D. Dr. Foster has been preparing human health and ecological risk assessments under EPA environmental programs such as CERCLA, RCRA, Clean Air Act, as well as State Hazardous Waste Cleanup regulations for over 30 years. He is currently with Geosyntec Consultants, Inc. He has worked with a wide range of industries including the pharmaceutical, manufacturing, mining and petroleum industries.
  • Mike Van Dyke, Ph.D., CIH. Dr. Van Dyke is the Branch Chief for Environmental Epidemiology, Occupational Health and Toxicology at the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE). He is currently the Principal Investigator for Colorado’s NIOSH-funded occupational health surveillance program and Colorado’s CDC-funded environmental public health tracking network.
